DISCLAIMER

Husbandry Guidelines are offered to the Australasian Society of Zoo Keeping (ASZK) Husbandry Manuals Register to help achieve the Society’s goal to better care for captive wild animals and for their greater welfare.

These Husbandry Guidelines were produced by the compiler/author at TAFE NSW – Western Sydney Institute, Richmond College, N.S.W. AUSTRALIA as part assessment completion of Certificate III in Captive Animals, Course number 1068, RUV30204; or Course Number 18913, ACM3031 . Since the husbandry guidelines are the result of student project work, care should be taken in the interpretation of information therein, - in effect, all care taken but no responsibility is assumed for any loss or damage that may result from the use of these guidelines.

These Husbandry Guidelines are hosted by the New South Wales Fauna and Marine Parks Association. Neither the ASZK or the NSW FMPA or any other entity takes responsibility of any loss or damage that may result from the implementation of these guidelines.

Husbandry Guidelines provide suggestions for captive management but should not be taken to imply that there is only one right way to manage a species in captivity.

Husbandry Guidelines are utility documents rather than literature reviews, so must reflect the experiences of the compiler and those who have contributed via personal communications and through referencing to published material.  Limitations include that the Husbandry Guidelines are created at AQF Certificate III level and that generally only English language literature is accessed.

Husbandry Guidelines are produced in the format recommended by Jackson, S.M. (2002) Standardizing captive-management manuals: guidelines for terrestrial vertebrates revised, in International Zoo Yearbook (2003) 38: 229-243, The Zoological Society of London, London. with some minor changes resulting from practical application of the original format. Producing the information in this format is actually a major contribution by the compiler, providing a ‘platform’ to which enhancements may be conveniently made; although for now they must be presented in PDF format.

Being that Husbandry Guidelines are utility documents and are always ‘works in progress’, enhancements to these guidelines are invited; so it is planned that they will be provided in wiki format.

In order to view Husbandry Guidelines published on the NSW FMPA website, you must first have read and accepted the above disclaimer.
